About the series
From 1992 to 1993, Northstar Comics published Slash, a five-issue horror anthology series that brought together a rotating roster of dark-fantasy talent, including writer/artist James O'Barr (best known for The Crow) alongside writers Rafael Nieves and David J. Schow, with artists Andy Dimitt and Kyle Hotz. Each issue delivered standalone tales of visceral, often supernatural violence, leaning into the grim aesthetic of early-'90s independent comics. While short-lived, the series stands as a raw showcase of its creators' early work, particularly O'Barr's brooding, ink-heavy style.
