In a 2017 miniseries for Marvel, writer Fred Van Lente and artists including Diego Olortegui and Reilly Brown brought back the slapstick-prone vigilante Slapstick, a character whose cartoonish reality-warping powers let him treat crime-fighting like a live-action Looney Tunes short. Over six issues, the series leaned into absurdist humor and fourth-wall-breaking antics, updating the 1990s creation for a modern audience while exploring the chaos of a hero who literally turns his surroundings into a comic strip. It’s a playful, under-the-radar Marvel entry that showcases the company’s willingness to embrace its weirder corners.
