From 2019, Dave Sim—the singular force behind Cerebus—returned to Aardvark-Vanaheim for a single, stand-alone issue of Sim City - That Issue After. Collaborating with the 19th-century engraver Gustave Doré, whose public-domain art is repurposed here, Sim crafts a dense, visually striking meditation on urban sprawl and creative legacy. It’s a brief but characteristic addition to Sim’s long-running, idiosyncratic body of work, notable for its unusual artistic partnership and its place in his post-Cerebus output.
