Shock Illustrated

EC’s Shock Illustrated (1955–1956) was a short-lived, three-issue experiment in crime and suspense comics, blending the publisher’s signature twist-endings with a more mature, illustrated-story format. Written primarily by Dan Keyes and Al Feldstein, and illustrated by the refined linework of Reed Crandall and the clean, unsettling style of Jack Kamen, the series stands as a late-era EC title that pushed the boundaries of pre-Code horror and crime storytelling. Though brief, it remains a fascinating artifact of the company’s final burst of creative energy before the Comics Code reshaped the industry.
