Shock Detective Cases

A short-lived but visually striking horror-crime hybrid from Star Publications, Shock Detective Cases ran for just two issues in 1952. The series is best remembered for its lurid, pre-Code covers and interior art by the legendary L.B. Cole, whose bold, expressionistic style gave these tales of gruesome murders and supernatural twists a feverish, unforgettable intensity. Though brief, it stands as a prime example of the raw, unregulated energy of early 1950s horror comics before the imposition of the Comics Code.
