Sebastian O / The Mystery Play by Grant Morrison

Grant Morrison and Steve Yeowell reunited for this 2017 DC collection, which bundles two of their early-'90s collaborations: the three-issue Sebastian O and the three-issue The Mystery Play. The former is a stylish, psychedelic riff on Victorian-era adventure, following a dandy assassin in a world of clockwork conspiracies; the latter is a moody, postmodern murder mystery set in a small English town, where the annual staging of a medieval play turns deadly. Though slim, this volume showcases Morrison and Yeowell's shared taste for genre-bending, atmospheric storytelling, and offers a neat primer on their inventive work before The Invisibles.
