About the series
Set in a post-apocalyptic America where magic and technology clash, Scout: War Shaman follows the continuing saga of the displaced Native American hero Emanuel "Scout" Santana as he battles corporate and mystical threats. Published by Eclipse Comics from 1988 to 1989, this 16-issue series was spearheaded by writer/artist Timothy Truman, with frequent contributions from co-writer Cat Yronwode and artist Ricardo Villagrán. Building on the world of the original Scout series, it deepened its fusion of dystopian sci-fi, Native American mythology, and gritty adventure. The series stands as a distinctive, creator-driven work from the late-'80s independent comics boom, showcasing Truman's raw, detailed style and mature storytelling.
