Sarge Snorkel
From 1973 to 1976, Charlton Comics gave the irascible Sarge Snorkel his own spotlight series, spun off from the beloved Beetle Bailey newspaper strip. Anchored by the creative team of Mort Walker (the strip's legendary creator) and his son Greg Walker, the 17-issue run put the bellowing, short-fused top sergeant front and center alongside Camp Swampy regulars like the laid-back Private Zero, the flustered General Halftrack, and the scheming Killer Diller. While Beetle Bailey himself often appeared, the series leaned into the Sarge's blustery authority and the base's timeless military comedy. It remains a fondly remembered expansion of Walker's classic humor universe, offering dedicated fans a deeper look at one of comicdom's most iconic blowhards.
