About the series
Tokyopop’s 35-issue run of Sailor Moon (1998–2001) brought Naoko Takeuchi’s beloved magical-girl epic to English-language readers for the first time, adapting the manga that inspired the global anime phenomenon. Anchored by Takeuchi’s own writing and art, the series also featured translation and adaptation work by Anita Sengupta and Stu Levy, with occasional contributions from the acclaimed creative collective Clamp. This edition introduced Western audiences to Usagi Tsukino’s transformation into the moon-powered guardian Sailor Moon and her fight against dark forces, laying the groundwork for the franchise’s enduring stateside popularity.
