In the early 2000s, Tom Manning wrote and drew all five issues of Runoff for Robots And Monkeys Publishing, a short-lived but memorable series that blended noir and sci-fi. The story follows a lone detective navigating a rain-drenched, decaying city where water itself has become a scarce and dangerous commodity. Manning's stark, moody artwork and taut scripting give the series a claustrophobic, film-noir atmosphere that stands out as a distinctive cult gem from the small-press era.
