Rubber Blanket

Over three issues from 1991 to 1993, David Mazzucchelli self-published Rubber Blanket through his own Rubber Blanket Press, a showcase for his idiosyncratic, formally adventurous storytelling. The series blends surreal humor, sharp social observation, and experimental page design, featuring a rotating cast of characters and vignettes that range from the absurd to the poignant. A landmark of early-90s alternative comics, it demonstrates Mazzucchelli’s evolution from mainstream superhero work into a singular, deeply personal cartooning voice.
