In the mid-1990s, CLAMP reimagined Hindu and Buddhist mythology for Tonkam with RG Veda, a ten-issue fantasy epic that follows a band of warriors on a quest to overthrow a tyrannical god-king. This series, a foundational work for the legendary all-female manga collective, established their signature blend of ornate character design, tragic romance, and cosmic-scale conflict. RG Veda matters as an early, influential showcase of CLAMP’s ability to weave dense mythological references into a dark, emotionally charged narrative that would define much of their later work.
