About the series
A mid-19th-century Portuguese comic periodical published by Imprensa Nacional, Revista Popular ran for 16 issues between 1850 and 1855. The series is most closely associated with the French-born illustrator and caricaturist Louis Morel-Retz, working under the pseudonym Stop, who contributed as both writer and artist, with some translations by Flora. As one of the earliest comic publications in Portugal, it represents a pioneering effort in serialized visual storytelling during the country's Romantic era.
