Reincarnation Stories

Kim Deitch’s Reincarnation Stories (2019–present, Fantagraphics) is a singular, ongoing graphic novel-in-progress, with only one issue released so far. Written and drawn entirely by Deitch, the series explores the tangled lives of characters who appear to cycle through different historical eras, blending autobiography, folklore, and surrealist whimsy. It matters as a showcase for Deitch’s trademark loose, expressive linework and his decades-spanning fascination with the strange, the occult, and the deeply personal.
