Real Pulp Comics

A short-lived but striking two-issue series from The Print Mint Inc (1971–1973), Real Pulp Comics was an early showcase for Art Spiegelman’s satirical and formally inventive work, alongside contributions from Leslie Cabarga. Blending Spiegelman’s emerging underground-comix sensibility with the vintage songwriting of Dorothy Fields and Jimmy McHugh, the series reimagined pulp-era tropes through a countercultural lens. It stands as a curious, influential artifact of the early 1970s comix boom, hinting at the narrative ambition Spiegelman would later bring to Maus.
