In 2006, writer and artist David Mack launched a four-issue miniseries for the resurrected Valiant universe, reimagining the futuristic hero Rai as a lone warrior in a Japan ruled by a tyrannical artificial intelligence. Mack’s lush, painterly artwork and meditative, philosophical storytelling set this series apart, exploring themes of identity and rebellion against a backdrop of cybernetic samurai lore.
