In this 2007–2009 Marvel series, writer Matt Fraction and a rotating team of artists including Ariel Olivetti, Alex Maleev, and Clint Langley redefined Frank Castle’s one-man war through a gritty, visually distinct lens. Over five issues, Punisher War Journal stripped the vigilante of his usual arsenal and allies, forcing him to rely on raw instinct and brutal improvisation. It’s a taut, stripped-down take that deepened the character’s mythology by showing the Punisher at his most vulnerable and relentless.
