About the series
In 2015, French publisher Akileos launched Princesse Ugg, a two-issue comic series that reimagines the classic fairy-tale princess as a rough-and-tumble warrior from a barbarian kingdom. Written and illustrated by Trondheim, the story follows Princess Ülga, who is sent to a finishing school for proper princesses, where her uncouth, battle-hardened ways clash with the refined etiquette of her peers. This short but charming series stands out for its playful subversion of gender stereotypes and its affectionate parody of both fantasy and royal tropes.
