Phil Corrigan Secret Agent X9

From 1950 to 1956, Atlas Comics revived the classic newspaper strip character Secret Agent X9 in his own series, Phil Corrigan Secret Agent X9. Over 22 issues, this Cold War-era espionage comic followed the titular government agent through a shadowy world of foreign spies and domestic intrigue. The series is best remembered for its gritty, atmospheric art by legendary illustrator Alex Toth, whose stark, cinematic style elevated the espionage genre in comics. While short-lived, the run remains a standout example of 1950s adventure storytelling and a key showcase for Toth’s early mastery of mood and action.
