About the series
Marjane Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novel, published in English by Atlas Contact from 2005 to 2008, chronicles her childhood and early adult years in Iran during and after the Islamic Revolution. Rendered in stark black-and-white illustrations, the series offers a deeply personal view of political upheaval, cultural displacement, and the search for identity. With Satrapi as both writer and artist, alongside translator Toon Dohmen, Persepolis became a landmark work that brought the memoir-in-comics form to a global audience, demonstrating the medium's power to tell intimate, historically grounded stories.
