Joe Sacco’s Palestina, published by Gyldendal Norsk Forlag from 2006 onward, collects his landmark comics journalism exploring the lives of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Drawn and written primarily by Sacco, this single-issue volume distills his firsthand reporting into a powerful, black-and-white narrative that helped define the modern documentary comic. Henrik W. Francke contributed as a co-writer on the Norwegian edition, but Sacco’s unflinching art and voice remain the work’s defining force. It matters as a pioneering example of how comics can bear witness to geopolitical conflict with depth and humanity.
