About the series
In the mid-1990s, Caliber Press published Pakkins' Land, a seven-issue fantasy series created by the husband-and-wife team of Gary and Rhoda Shipman. The story follows a young boy who finds himself transported to a magical world of talking animals and strange creatures, where he must navigate both wonder and peril. Gary Shipman handled the art and co-wrote the series with Rhoda Shipman, lending the book a distinctive, lushly illustrated style that set it apart from the superhero fare of the era. A heartfelt, creator-driven work, Pakkins' Land remains a quietly cherished example of the independent comics scene’s willingness to explore all-ages fantasy.
