In 2010 and 2011, Tokuma Shoten published Opus, a two-issue manga series by the visionary creator Satoshi Kon. The story blurs the line between creator and creation, following a manga artist who is pulled into his own unfinished comic, where his characters rebel against their fated endings. Though cut short by Kon's untimely passing, this metafictional work stands as a poignant, self-reflective capstone to his career, exploring themes of artistic control and narrative consequence.
