Of Bitter Souls

In 2005 and 2006, Speakeasy Comics published Of Bitter Souls, a three-issue miniseries written by Chuck Satterlee and illustrated by Norm Breyfogle. The series blends Southern Gothic horror with supernatural action, following a group of characters confronting dark forces in the American South. Breyfogle's distinctive, moody artwork—honed on his legendary Batman run—gives the book a visceral, shadowy energy, while Satterlee's script grounds the fantastical in a gritty, regional atmosphere. Though brief, it's a cult gem that showcases Breyfogle's versatility beyond capes and cowls.
