About the series
In a near-future Japan, Nonplayer follows a young woman who escapes her mundane reality by immersing herself in a hyper-immersive fantasy MMO, only to find the boundaries between the game world and her own life beginning to blur. Published by Image Comics from 2011 to 2015, this two-issue series was the sole creation of writer-artist Nate Simpson, whose lush, detailed digital art and quiet, character-driven storytelling earned it a devoted following. Though brief, Nonplayer stands as a striking, unfinished meditation on escapism and identity, celebrated for its gorgeous visuals and the promise of its singular vision.
