New Tales of Old Palomar

From 2006 to 2007, Gilbert Hernandez returned to his beloved, sprawling Central American setting of Palomar for a three-issue Fantagraphics series, New Tales of Old Palomar. Featuring the artist-writer's signature intertwining of magical realism and raw human drama, these stories revisit familiar residents like Luba, Chelo, and Tonantzín Villaseñor, as well as characters such as Tipin' Tipin', Guero, and Arturo. A compact but essential chapter in Hernandez's decades-spanning Palomar saga, it deepens the community's rich, tangled history with his trademark warmth and psychological insight.
