Musée Philipon
Aubert · 1842–1843 · 48 issues
About the series
In the early 1840s, the Parisian publisher Aubert released Musée Philipon, a 48-issue comic series that served as a lively showcase for the satirical talents of Cham (Amédée de Noé) and Alcide Joseph Lorentz. Named for the famed caricaturist Charles Philipon, this short-lived periodical blended political and social caricature with sequential storytelling, capturing the sharp, irreverent spirit of the French July Monarchy era. As a key outlet for Cham’s early work, it stands as an important artifact in the development of the comic strip in Europe.
