Rodolphe Töpffer’s pioneering comic strip, originally created in the 1820s, found its definitive published form in this 1860 edition from Garnier Frères. The story follows the hapless, accident-prone Mr. Vieux Bois through a series of slapstick misadventures, with François Töpffer’s illustrations bringing his father’s sequential art innovations to life. As one of the earliest examples of the modern comic format, it remains a foundational work in the history of the medium.
