Miss America
Marvel · 1953–1958 · 43 issues
About the series
In the 1950s, Marvel (then Atlas Comics) launched Miss America, a 43-issue series that blended teen humor and romance with a distinctly wholesome, all-American tone. Anchored by the regular writing of Stan Lee and the clean, lively art of Morris Weiss and Al Hartley, the book focused on the everyday adventures of a cast of recurring characters—including Hedy Wolfe, Buzz Baxter, Patsy Walker, Nancy Brown, Tubs, and Mr. Walker—navigating friendship, school, and young love. Though its title character was more a thematic concept than a costumed hero, the series stands as a charming snapshot of mid-century pop culture, showcasing the early, pre-superhero storytelling that helped define Marvel’s broader publishing identity.
