About the series
Max Hamm, a hard-boiled private eye in a world of anthropomorphic animals, ran for four issues from 2003 to 2005 from the French publisher Akileos. Blending classic noir tropes with a playful, cartoonish sensibility, the series was written and drawn by its creator, Frank Le Gall, whose clean, expressive linework gave the gumshoe genre a fresh, distinctly European spin. Though short-lived, Max Hamm stands as a charming, self-contained example of the detective comic, remembered for its clever fusion of genre and animal characters.
