Manwha: The World of Korean Comics

From 2003 to 2006, the Korea Culture & Contents Agency (KOCCA) published Manwha: The World of Korean Comics, a four-issue series that served as an early, ambitious English-language showcase for the diversity and artistry of Korean comics. Each issue functioned as a curated anthology, introducing international readers to a range of manwha genres, styles, and creators, highlighting the medium’s cultural significance and growing global influence. While short-lived, this series matters as a pioneering effort to bridge Korean and Western comics audiences at a time when manwha was just beginning to gain traction outside of Asia.
