Manga Vizion

From 1995 to 1998, Viz Media’s Manga Vizion served as a monthly anthology bridging Japanese manga and American readers, blending translated serials like Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma ½ and Osamu Tezuka’s Adolf with original Western work by talents such as Gerard Jones and Peter Makepeace. Across 42 issues, it offered a curated mix of genres—action, comedy, drama—from established manga masters and emerging domestic creators, making it a key early pipeline for manga distribution in the U.S. While short-lived, the series reflected Viz’s ambitious push to cultivate a cross-cultural comics audience during the mid-’90s manga boom.
