Jim Massey and artist Robbi Rodriguez teamed up at Oni Press for Maintenance (2006–2008), a ten-issue series that follows the blue-collar workers tasked with keeping a bizarre, high-tech supervillain lair running. Instead of capes and cosmic battles, the focus is on the mundane, often absurd struggles of the repair crew dealing with malfunctioning death rays, escaped experiments, and union paperwork. With a sharp, comedic tone and Rodriguez's energetic art, the series offers a clever, grounded take on the superhero genre by spotlighting the unsung heroes behind the scenes.
