Madgermanes

Set in post-reunification Germany, Madgermanes (2021–present, Voland & Quist) is a single-issue comic that follows former Mozambican contract workers who were brought to East Germany and then left stranded after the Berlin Wall fell. The story centers on their struggle to find belonging and reckon with broken promises, told through a blend of personal memory and historical critique. Its creators bring a sharp, empathetic lens to a little-known chapter of German history.
