Macabre Western
AC · 1972–1973 · 2 issues
About the series
In the early 1970s, AC Comics blended the Old West with the supernatural in this short-lived, two-issue series. Written primarily by Bill Black, with art from Black and veteran penciler Dick Ayers, Macabre Western brought together a cast of genre-bending characters like the mysterious Red Mask, the ghostly Spectre, and the spectral Haunted Horseman alongside more traditional Western figures such as Tim Holt and Rex Fury. A cult oddity from the dawn of the independent comics boom, it stands as a curious artifact of the era's willingness to experiment with cross-genre storytelling.
