About the series
First published in 1852 by J. W. Lillja & Co., Lukemisia kansalle is one of the earliest comic series in Finnish history, running for just four issues. The series is most closely associated with the pioneering Swiss cartoonist Rodolphe Töpffer, who wrote all of its stories and co-illustrated them alongside the French artist Cham. It matters as a landmark in Nordic comics, bringing Töpffer's influential picture-stories to a Finnish audience and helping to establish the comic format in the region.
