About the series
Daniel Clowes's Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron is a surreal, blackly comic odyssey originally serialized in the pages of his own Eightball comic in the early 1990s, later collected as a single graphic novel by Presspop Inc. in 2005. This nightmarish, labyrinthine narrative follows a man's obsessive search for his missing wife, plunging him into a world of bizarre cults, grotesque violence, and media-fueled paranoia. Clowes's stark, precise linework and deadpan storytelling make this a landmark of alternative comics, a deeply unsettling and influential exploration of alienation and the dark underbelly of American culture. It remains a defining work of the 1990s underground, still in print and studied for its singular, unsettling vision.
