Light It, Shoot It!

Graham Chaffee's Light It, Shoot It! (2024–present, Fantagraphics) captures a gritty, off-kilter slice of life through the eyes of a down-and-out photographer in Los Angeles. Chaffee, the series' driving artistic force, blends moody, expressive black-and-white art with a deadpan narrative voice to explore the strange encounters and quiet desperation of his protagonist's world. A sharp, understated entry in the alternative comics tradition, it matters for how it uses the comic form to look at the art of seeing itself.
