La Vie drôle

A short-lived but vital series from the legendary Parisian cabaret Le Chat noir, La Vie drôle ran for just 11 issues between 1893 and 1894. As a showcase for the venue's signature blend of bohemian wit and satirical illustration, it captured the fin-de-siècle spirit of Montmartre. The series is most closely associated with its founder, the artist and caricaturist Adolphe Willette, whose graceful, often mordant linework defined its tone. Though brief, La Vie drôle stands as a key artifact of the late 19th-century French comic press, preserving the irreverent energy of one of Paris's most famous artistic circles.
