A landmark of French political satire, La Caricature launched in 1841 under the publishing house Aubert, becoming a vital weekly outlet for oppositional humor during the July Monarchy. The series is most famously associated with the master lithographer and caricaturist Honoré Daumier, whose savage, legally-challenged portraits of King Louis-Philippe as "Gargantua" and other scathing plates defined the publication's fearless edge.
