La Banque-Proudhon

A satirical comic strip first published in 1849 by the Parisian newspaper Bureau du Charivari, La Banque-Proudhon is a single-issue artifact of mid-19th century French political cartooning. Its title references the mutualist economist Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, and the work lampoons financial and banking institutions of the era with the sharp, lithographic wit typical of the Charivari tradition. Though brief, it stands as a notable example of how the early comic form was used for pointed social commentary in the wake of the 1848 revolutions.
