Kariba

In Kariba, a young girl discovers she is the vessel for the spirit of the Zambezi River's serpent god, a revelation that intertwines her fate with the colonial history and ecological struggles of the Kariba Dam. Launched in 2023 by Catalyst Press, this series draws on Southern African mythology and contemporary environmental themes, with artwork by Daniel Clarke and story by Clarke and James E. Marriott. Its debut issue establishes a thoughtful, visually striking narrative that reimagines indigenous folklore within a modern, politically resonant context.
