Kaboom

Jeph Loeb and Jeff Matsuda teamed up for this short-lived 1997 series from Awesome Entertainment. Kaboom follows a young man who gains explosive superpowers after a freak accident, using his new abilities to fight crime in a world of larger-than-life heroes. Though it only ran three issues, the series showcases the dynamic, anime-influenced style that defined Matsuda’s early work. It remains a cult curiosity for fans of Loeb’s superhero writing and Awesome’s late-90s output.
