Joe Palooka Comics

From 1948 to 1950, Super Publishing brought the beloved newspaper strip into its own comic series with Joe Palooka Comics, running 21 issues. Ham Fisher, the strip’s creator, worked alongside Bob Powell and likely Al Avison to chronicle the adventures of the good-natured heavyweight boxing champion. This series captured the post-war era’s affection for square-jawed heroes, offering a mix of ring action and everyday heroics that made Joe Palooka a familiar face on newsstands.
