About the series
Inferno, a five-issue series from Caliber Press running from 1995 to 1997, is a dark, horror-tinged crime saga that follows a firefighter turned vigilante after a devastating blaze destroys his family. Written and illustrated by the talented team of Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola (who also provided covers), the series stands out for its moody, expressionistic art and its gritty exploration of guilt and revenge. Though short-lived, Inferno has gained a cult following for its intense atmosphere and its place in the mid-90s independent comics landscape, showcasing a more grounded, noir-inflected side of Mignola’s work before his iconic Hellboy.
