Thomas Gilke’s Import / Export, launched in 2008 by Ausnahmeverlag, is a singular, ongoing comic project that explores themes of exchange and transit through a single, densely packed issue. Gilke, serving as both writer and artist, crafts a self-contained narrative that stands alone as the series’ entire published output to date. Its significance lies in its status as a deliberate, complete statement within the German independent comics scene, a focused work that has sustained its own conversation for over a decade without need for expansion.
