Illustrerte Klassikere [Classics Illustrated]
From 1957 to 1967, Williams Forlag’s Illustrerte Klassikere brought 219 issues of classic literature to Norwegian readers in comic form, adapting timeless stories with vivid sequential art. The series leaned heavily on the talents of artists like Norman Nodel and Lou Cameron, alongside translators such as Alfred Sundel, to render works by Jules Verne and other literary giants into accessible, illustrated narratives. As a Scandinavian offshoot of the global Classics Illustrated phenomenon, it played a key role in introducing generations to foundational tales through a medium that married education with entertainment. Its substantial run—spanning a decade—marks it as a significant cultural bridge between literary heritage and popular comics in postwar Norway.
