About the series
From 1954 to 1956, the Norwegian publisher Serieforlaget (in collaboration with Se-Bladene and Stabenfeldt) released Illustrerte Klassikere, a ten-issue comic series that adapted classic literature into illustrated form. Writers like Zinken Hopp and George Lipscomb, alongside artists such as Bob Lamme and Henry C. Kiefer, brought these stories to life, with Anna Sewell’s work also contributing to the series’ literary foundation. While short-lived, the series stands as a notable early effort in Scandinavian comics to make canonical texts accessible through sequential art, reflecting the era’s growing appetite for educational yet entertaining visual storytelling.
