Hydrogen Bomb Funnies

Gilbert Shelton’s Hydrogen Bomb Funnies (1970–present, Rip Off Press) is a single-issue underground comix landmark, a gleefully anarchic one-shot from the counterculture era. Shelton, the creator behind the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, applies his signature satirical, freewheeling style to a collection of absurdist strips and political gags. Though it never continued past that first issue, its raw, unapologetic energy captures the spirit of the underground press movement at its most irreverent.
