From 1972 to 1974, the Italian publisher Der Freibeuter released 23 issues of Horror, a black-and-white anthology series that brought together some of Europe's most striking comic talent. Most frequently associated with the atmospheric pencils of Leandro Biffi, the elegant, sensuous linework of Milo Manara, and the collaborative efforts of Studio Rosi, the series offered a distinct, mature take on the macabre. It stands as a noteworthy artifact of the early 1970s European horror comic boom, showcasing a blend of psychological dread and graphic artistry that helped define the era's underground and adult-oriented publishing.
